Little home improvement changes can make a big impact on your daily life. A quick and easy thing to upgrade in your house is your toilet seat in your bathroom.
Is your toilet seat wobbly and loose, and does it keep shifting or sliding every time you sit down? Or is the seat starting to peel or chip off or even show discoloration from frequent use?
If you can change your toilet paper, you can change your toilet seat.
In other words, it’s not hard to do a little DIY to refresh your old or broken toilet seat without having to call a professional handyman.
Just follow our 8 simple and easy steps:

Note: When you purchase a brand new toilet seat, most come equipped with all of the toilet seat parts you need in the same package, which will typically include the seat, seat cover, hinges, clips, nuts, and bolts.
Step 1: Figure out the type and size of toilet seat you need: regular or elongated (oval).
Step 2: Remove plastic screws from the old toilet seat and take the seat off to discard.
Step 3: Next, clean the area by spraying any cleaning detergent, then wipe away any residue with a paper towel or rag.
Step 4: Take the new toilet seat and open the hinge, then slide in the inner clip on the track. Listen for the click as it fits into the hinge area. Do the same on the other side.
Step 5: Grab the synthetic plastic screws that came with your new toilet seat and line up the arrow front and back. Now, place it into the inner clips of the hinge, and click it down.
Step 6: Place plastic screws (now attached to the inner clip, hinge, and toilet seat) into your toilet’s two existing pre-cut holes. Grab the two plastic nuts and reach under the toilet to tighten the nuts onto the plastic screws and only loosely tighten them with your hands (final tightening with tools to follow).
Step 7: An important step is to make sure your toilet seat is correctly positioned by matching the center to the toilet below it before you move on to the next step.
Step 8: Now, use a box wrench or a socket set and tighten one of the nuts onto one of the screws until the bottom of the nut actually breaks off. Afterward, do the same to the second plastic nut on the other side.
Voila! Now, go ahead and test it by closing the new toilet seat and its cover down completely.
